The arrest of former Prince Andrew is the culmination of a story spanning more than a quarter of a century, involving his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and his involvement in sex trafficking scandals. The story involves high-profile figures, high-profile allegations and serious consequences for Andrew's personal life and royal titles.
The prince's relationship with Epstein began in 1999, when he was first introduced to his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and Ghislaine Maxwell. Andrew then used Epstein's private jet to visit his private Caribbean island, where Epstein's criminal activities were said to have taken place. In subsequent years, he attended parties and trips organized by Epstein, including visits to his homes in Manhattan and Palm Beach.
In March 2005, allegations of sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl were made, leading to investigations and raids that uncovered dozens of other possible victims. Meanwhile, Andrew continued to have contact with Epstein and Maxwell, attending private events and sending emails detailing official travel and activities.
In July 2019, Epstein was arrested and later found dead in his cell, while his documents and emails were gradually made public as part of the “Epstein Files.” These documents revealed Andrew’s close ties to Epstein and confirmed many of the previous claims that the prince had denied.
Andrew subsequently lost his royal titles and patronages, resigned from official positions, and in October 2025, the publication of the emails forced King Charles to remove the prince from the royal household and suspend his titles. An out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre also settled some of the civil charges, but Andrew now faces the possibility of legal action and other consequences that could affect his freedom. The arrest is just the latest chapter in a scandal that has rocked the United Kingdom and exposed the influence and powerful networks of Epstein and his allies.
