Representatives of France's main unions, who met with Sébastien Lecorni in Paris today as part of the latter's efforts to form a government acceptable to unions and parliamentarians, announced that they are not satisfied with what they heard from the prime minister-designate and that they are calling on French workers to continue strikes on October 2.

According to union representatives, Lecorni does not seem willing to cancel many of the fiscal austerity measures proposed by the outgoing Prime Minister, François Bayrou, through the draft state budget for 2026, which he presented before the fall of his government.

At the center of the Prime Minister-designate's discussions is the issue of taxation of large wealth in France, which is likely to become a major political issue to the extent that the Socialist and Green parties consider it a prerequisite for demonstrating political tolerance towards Sébastien Lecorni.

According to journalistic information, Sébastien Lecorni declares that he is not against increasing taxation of French people with large assets, without however sharing the proposal of the French economist Gabriel Zukman to impose a 2% tax on the assets of approximately 1800 French families with more than 100 million euros. Finally, the efforts of the appointed prime minister to form a government are being helped by French President Emmanuel Macron, who in an interview with a French television station said that “Sebastien Lecorni has the right to act methodically and to consult with all political forces”.
