Tirana Police have intensified checks on luxury vehicles circulating in the capital today, September 6th.

The focus of the operation is to verify the origin and source of the wealth with which these vehicles were purchased. During the checks, dozens of vehicles were verified, using special equipment for checking identification data. After verification in the system, the police conducted further checks on the ownership, origin and history of the cars.

Also, sources of income have been verified, with the aim of identifying cases where assets may have been obtained from criminal activity or where assets may be the object of illegal trafficking.

At the conclusion of the verifications, the procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office, while the controls will continue as part of the fight against laundering the proceeds of crime.

Tirana Police structures have intensified controls on luxury vehicles, with the aim of identifying and verifying vehicles that are suspected of having been the proceeds of criminal activity, as well as preventing their trafficking.

As part of these checks, the structures for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes, in cooperation with the "Operational" Special Force, the "Eagle" Special Force and the Traffic Police, have checked dozens of luxury vehicles in the capital.

The checks were carried out using a special device, which enables the control and verification of the vehicle's identification data. After verification in the system, further checks were carried out on the registered vehicles regarding their ownership, origin and history of purchase, sale and possession.

Also, verifications were carried out on the source of income with which the vehicles were purchased, with the aim of identifying cases where the property may have been obtained from criminal activity, as well as identifying vehicles that may be the object of illegal trafficking.

At the conclusion of the verifications, the procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further investigations and the performance of further procedural actions.

Tirana Police will continue joint controls and verifications of luxury vehicles, in order to identify and seize assets of criminal origin, prevent their trafficking and fight against the laundering of proceeds from criminal activity.
