For iPhone users who have older devices, the latest news from Meta has brought important information: WhatsApp will stop working on some older iPhone models starting May 5, 2025.
This happened due to changes in application updates and the need to adapt to newer versions of operating systems.
According to Meta, the changes are part of regular updates aimed at securing the app and improving its functionality on newer devices. The iPhone models that will be affected are those running iOS versions older than 15.1, including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which were launched in 2013 and 2014.
Users using these devices may be able to update their operating system to the latest available version (for example, up to iOS 12.5.7 for iPhone 5s) to keep WhatsApp running. If they cannot update, users may be forced to purchase a newer device to continue using the app.
At the same time, some Android models are also losing support for WhatsApp as of January 1, 2025, including some models from Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG, and Sony.
