Security expert Fatjon Softa has commented on recent criminal events in the country, raising concerns about the involvement of police officers and various leaders in serious criminal episodes. According to Softa, this situation is directly affecting the decrease in citizens' trust in the State Police.
Referring to the injury of the officer in Tirana, Softa said about the lunch program in News24 that the investigations must clarify whether weapons were used by both parties and under what circumstances the police were at the scene. He added that if the officer was aware of persons with criminal records or for illegal possession of weapons and did not notify the relevant structures, then this is institutional inaction.
Softa also emphasized the importance of verifying whether the weapon was used in self-defense, while requesting the analysis of video footage from the scene. "In many incidents, political figures and leaders appear, who are involved in criminal incidents. That is why trust in the police is waning. We expect an investigation by the police, and whether weapons were used by both sides. Was the police officer close to the target? Or was he there by chance? A thorough investigation is needed.
Whether he was on duty or off duty, he is a police officer. The police officer is not that he did not have information, because they say they are friends. The police officer had knowledge and did not help the structure by inaction. We are talking about a person with a precedent, for possessing weapons without a permit. But if he uses a firearm in self-defense, this issue must be looked into. We need video footage from the scene, it is a matter of time. But their arrest may also be delayed. The problem is how weapons circulate. How they are disposed of," he said.
The expert also raised concerns about the circulation of weapons and the use of motorcycles with stolen license plates in assassinations and robberies.
Softa also mentioned other unsolved events, such as the murder of the postman in Kamëz and the robberies of jewelers, as in the case of Saturday, calling for stronger security measures for businesses. According to him, entities operating with high values should be equipped with high-resolution cameras, armored doors and bulletproof facades to prevent similar criminal attacks.
"Another unsolved event is the murder of the postman in Kamza, or the robbery of the jewelry store. There are robberies, there are criminal events, so there must be additional measures. These businesses, the jewelry store, must have more increased measures, have bulletproof facades, with armored doors, because it is no coincidence that those people went there by motorbike. The license plates are mainly stolen. In the case in question, the motorbike and the spacesuits were used. In many places, dark spacesuits are prohibited. Behind the black glass, faces are hidden that can also be used to carry out assassinations. That area is well-known. Even when Santo was killed, the motorbike was hidden in those areas. Kalashnikov, in a public environment, in one of the most frequented areas of Kamza, a robbery is committed. Subjects must take preventive measures, such as high-resolution cameras," he said.
