Renowned Premier League referee Anthony Taylor is stepping down after 16 years in English football's top flight. The 47-year-old retires from refereeing after 831 matches in English, European and international football.

His last match he refereed was the World Cup round of 16 match between Portugal and Spain.

At the national level, Taylor has refereed all major English cup finals, including the FA Cup finals in 2017 and 2020, as well as the League Cup final in 2015. He has also refereed 432 Premier League matches.

Taylor leaves refereeing due to increasing pressure. "The pressure is great and the responsibility is also great. The time has come for me to step down," Taylor said.
