Gunfire was heard in the southern suburbs of Beirut as a ceasefire with Israel came into effect at midnight on Thursday, AFP journalists reported.

Official Lebanese media also reported gunfire at the start of the 10-day ceasefire announced on Thursday by US President Donald Trump.

The southern sector of Beirut, considered a Hezbollah stronghold, which is close to Iran, has suffered the heaviest blows from Israeli airstrikes since the start of hostilities on March 2.

For its part, the Times of Israel reports that Hezbollah launched rocket attacks on settlements in northern Israel just minutes before the curfew was to go into effect. The IDF said only one of the rockets fell in open areas and the others were intercepted.

Meanwhile, Israel struck 380 Hezbollah targets, individuals and support structures in southern Lebanon yesterday alone.
