A serious shooting incident has rocked the city of San Diego, after police responded to reports of shots fired at the area's largest Islamic center, in the Clairemont neighborhood. According to local authorities, two people have been killed and several others have been injured.
San Diego police announced that the situation is now under control and that the threat has been neutralized.
According to information published on the center's official website, it is considered the largest mosque in San Diego County. The complex also includes the Al Rashid School, where Arabic language, Islamic studies, and Quran lessons are taught.
Footage from the scene showed children leaving the centre, escorted by police and emergency services. A school spokesman told CNN that students and staff are currently safe.
No details have been released about the identity of the perpetrator or the motives for the attack, while investigations are ongoing by federal authorities and local police. The incident has caused great concern in the city's Muslim community and more broadly in California.
