A day after the hailstorm, the consequences on the agricultural lands of Braçanj and Dobranj in Devoll are visible. Entire plots of beans have been severely damaged, while in some cases farmers say they have lost up to 70% of their production.
The most affected are beans, which were in the ripening stage and were expected to be harvested soon. But the damage is not limited to this crop. The hail has also hit onions, tomatoes, peppers, apples, pears and other crops.
Farmers say that within a few minutes, months of work was damaged, and their concern is now also about the produce remaining in the plots.
This is the second storm to hit the area in a few weeks. Farmers say they faced the same situation a month ago, and they are asking institutions to support them.
The headman of Dobranj, Petrika Zyfi, says that around 50 farmers have been affected by hail, while beans are the crop that has suffered the most damage.
Meanwhile, the Devoll Municipality has started field verifications. So far, about 40 hectares of damaged agricultural land have been identified, with an average damage level of about 40%. In Dobranj alone, about 30 hectares of beans have been identified, where the damage is estimated at 50 to 60%.
Inspections will continue over the next three days to more accurately determine the areas and level of damage.
