A new alarm has been caused by the newest virus circulating, Hantavirus, which has caused concern in several countries around the world.
As it all started on a cruise ship, where the first infected were registered, the question that naturally arises is whether we will have a new pandemic again.
Doctor Ilir Alimehmeti invited to 'This Week' in News24 In front of journalist Nisida Tufa, he declared that there is no room for panic, while adding that the world has been living with this virus for 3 decades.
"It's not problematic, there's no reason for people to panic. It's a virus that we know very well, for 3 decades. This virus was recognized in the Korean War. It's a virus that is transmitted by rats, which we know bring disease. Just the idea of mentioning rats makes someone's flesh tingle. Hygiene and rats away. Here, they make a show with these sprays. It kills with a high percentage, but in many cases they are asymptomatic. In a minority, when the condition worsens, there are fatalities. There is a small possibility in America that it can be transmitted from person to person. Close, intimate contact is needed, in very close environments, for infection to occur. In Albania, we have had cases of hemorrhagic fever before, because here in the Balkan area we have the Belgrade virus. This is also transmitted indirectly by rats," he said. Alimehmeti ruled out the possibility of a pandemic outbreak. "It's not about a pandemic. This virus does not have such characteristics. It is eliminated in a second. We have known this virus written in books for three quarters of a century," he added.
