An unusual heatwave that has gripped France in recent days has caused a significant increase in deaths, mainly among the elderly. According to reported data, around 85% of the victims are people over 65, with the highest number of cases recorded in the Île-de-France region, which includes Paris and the surrounding areas.

Health authorities and funeral services report that the situation in several cities, including Paris, has deteriorated significantly, leading to an overload of morgues and funeral services. According to representatives of the sector, all funeral homes in Paris are currently full, while some bodies are being transferred to other areas due to a lack of space. In some cases, authorities are considering the use of additional premises or refrigerated containers, as was done during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the French Interior Ministry reports that dozens of people have also lost their lives from drowning in rivers and lakes, mainly young people between the ages of 15 and 25, often in areas where swimming is prohibited.

Authorities have also restricted a number of cultural and sporting activities due to extreme temperatures that have exceeded 40°C in some regions. Emergency services and public health authorities have called for increased care for isolated and elderly people, stressing the need for social solidarity during such extreme periods. According to forecasts, temperatures have started to gradually fall, bringing relief after several severe days for most of the country.
