Elbasan yesterday faced an extraordinary storm with .60 mm of rain in just 30 minutes, about 30 apartments and 20 basements flooded, dozens of vehicles damaged and trees downed.
A storm with exceptionally intense rainfall hit the city of Elbasan and various areas of the municipality's territory on Saturday afternoon, causing immediate problems in infrastructure, housing, businesses, and road traffic.
According to official data made public by the Municipality of Elbasan, within just 30 minutes, about 60 millimeters of rainfall were recorded, a significant amount that brought large accumulations of water and flooding in several points of the city.
Immediately after the problems emerged, emergency and public service teams went to the field to assist citizens and manage the consequences of the storm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
From preliminary verifications by the Municipality's structures, the water has affected about 30 apartments and 20 basements, in which pumps have been intervened to remove the water and gradually restore the premises to normal condition.
The most significant damage was recorded in vehicles parked in underground parking lots, which were exposed to rainwater penetration.
The storm also caused 10 trees to fall, which were removed from the roads by public service teams, allowing the roads to be opened and traffic to return to normal.
The problems are not limited to the city of Elbasan. The flows created by the rainfall have caused damage and difficulties on several roads in villages and administrative units.
Public service vehicles and teams have intervened on the ground to clear the roads of materials brought by the floods, enabling the restoration of traffic in the affected segments.
The Municipality of Elbasan has announced that all public enterprises continue to be on full alert, with teams engaged in the field to monitor the situation and intervene at any point where the need arises.
Even on Sunday, Elbasan Municipality structures continue their work on the ground to clean, organize, and restore the affected areas to normal.
According to the Municipality, interventions will continue without interruption in the city and administrative units, until the consequences caused by the rainfall are completely eliminated.
Saturday's bad weather did not only affect the city of Elbasan, but almost the entire territory of the Elbasan district.
Intense rainfall and the resulting floods have caused problems on various segments of national and rural roads, temporarily making vehicle traffic difficult.
Flooding of agricultural lands has also been reported in some areas, while local structures and emergency services have continued to monitor the situation.
Despite the extraordinary intensity of the rainfall, the preliminary balance in Elbasan does not record any injured people, while the work of public structures continues to identify the damage and restore normality in all affected areas.
