Long lines of vehicles and waits that in some cases reached up to 10 hours were recorded over the weekend at the Karasovići-Debeli Brijeg border crossing, on the border between Croatia and Montenegro, creating one of the most difficult situations of the tourist season in the Adriatic region.

According to Croatian media, thousands of vehicles are blocked in kilometer-long queues stretching from the Karasovici border crossing to near Dubrovnik airport, while traffic has also included local roads in the municipality of Konavle, significantly hindering the movement of residents.

For residents of this area, the first weekend of August has already become the most problematic period of the year due to the extraordinary flow of vehicles passing towards Montenegro.

The situation was considered so serious that the mayor of Konavle, Bozho Lasic, activated the municipality's Civil Protection Headquarters, describing the situation as unacceptable.

"People cannot go to their homes or carry out normal daily activities," he declared, calling on citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until traffic normalizes.

Transportation experts link this situation to the traditional flow of movement during the first weekend of August.

Every year, thousands of citizens from Albania, Montenegro and the Western Balkan countries, who live and work in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom and other European countries, travel to their countries of origin for summer holidays.

At the same time, a large number of tourists staying in Dubrovnik choose to visit Montenegrin tourist destinations, such as Kotor, Budva and the Bay of Kotor, significantly increasing the load at the border crossing.
