The "Gjon Durrahium" League of Universities held the conference "Towards a global higher education market, changes in the law", with the participation of non-public institutions of higher education in Albania, including Luarasi University.

The review of the legal framework, the internationalization of Higher Education institutions, funding, profiling and competitiveness were some of the main points on which the discussion of educators and education professionals was based.

The Rector of "Luaras", Prof. Dr. Maksim Haxhia addressed the "Need for Changes in the Law on Higher Education", where he proposed removing the restriction of the average of 6.5 for high school graduates, as well as lowering the threshold for the number of professors that a department must have.

The Minister of Education, Mirela Kumbaro, present at the conference, described the cooperation with the League of Universities “Gjon Durrahium”, as well as with the Rectors’ Conference, on the revision of the Law on Higher Education as fruitful. The Minister said that Albania is not in need of a completely new law, but must build the spirit of the future in accordance with EU standards, emphasizing internationalization through the profiling of universities.

Regarding the amendment of the Higher Education Law, the “Gjon Durrahium” League has sent to the ministry a 45-page material, drafted by a committee on legal issues, where the opinions and needs of each university have been collected. Among other things, Higher Education professionals discussed autonomy in universities, the internationalization of diplomas, the attraction of foreign students and opening up to the labor market.
