Details have emerged from the serious incident that shook the Kypseli area of Athens, after a suspicious suitcase found in an abandoned building turned out to contain the body of a woman.
The alarm was raised on Saturday afternoon, July 18, on Evelpidon Street, where a homeless person found the suitcase and notified the authorities. Upon arrival at the scene, Hellenic Police officers discovered that inside it was the body of a woman in an advanced stage of decomposition. According to preliminary information, the victim was wearing shorts.
The area was immediately cordoned off by police, while forensic teams began collecting evidence. Forensic expertise is awaited, which will help determine the woman's identity, time of death and her cause. A resident of the area told Greek media that the abandoned building was open until about two years ago and was used as a shelter for homeless people, but was then closed after a fire.
According to him, in recent weeks he had seen a homeless person staying in that area, but he had not been seen again in recent days. The Directorate Against Organized Crime has taken over the investigation of the case, while authorities are working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
