Lawyer Detar Hysi explained the procedure and criteria for obtaining the status of a repentant person of justice, clarifying the role of the prosecution and the court in this process.

Invited to the show "Oponencje" on News24Hysi emphasized that the process begins with the prosecutor's conviction of the defendant's cooperation.

"For a citizen to be a fugitive from justice, the prosecutor must be convinced. The court grants the status. If his statements during the trial are confirmed in the end, he receives the status of a fugitive from justice," he said.

According to him, an essential element in this process is the verification of the statements of the person seeking to cooperate with justice, as only if they are proven can the relevant status be obtained.

Hysi added that the credibility of the cooperating individual is an important factor in his assessment in the process, given that his testimony must be supported and confirmed during the investigation.

In this context, he underlined that the status of the repentant of justice is the result of a process that requires full verification and confirmation of the information provided by the collaborator.

He emphasized that in cases where a defendant is considered a drug user, his credibility is called into question, to the point that certain defendants may need to use methadone to confess in court hearings.
