United States President Donald Trump has stated that he has left clear instructions on how the US should react if Iran succeeds in carrying out an assassination attempt on him, warning Tehran of serious consequences.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said that he has long been a target of Iranian authorities and that the US administration is prepared for any scenario.
"I've been on their list for a long time. This is what we're dealing with," the American president said.
He revealed that he left direct orders for the US response if an assassination attempt were to occur against him.
"I left orders that, if anything happens, just bomb them, literally, at a level they've never seen before," Trump declared.
His comments come after reports that Israel has shared intelligence with the United States related to a suspected Iranian plot to assassinate the US president.
According to an exclusive report by the Wall Street Journal, the Israeli secret service Mossad has informed American intelligence agencies about a new Iranian plan aimed at eliminating Donald Trump.
However, Trump hinted that he does not believe this is a new threat, emphasizing that, according to him, Iran has been targeting him for years.
The US president's statements are expected to further increase tensions between Washington and Tehran, at a time when relations between the two countries remain extremely strained.
