Former Socialist MP Arben Malaj has announced that he will run as an independent in the upcoming local elections for mayor of Vlora.

Guest on the show Studio24 - IN News24, Malaj stated that the decision to run has already been made, despite the difficulties related to the legal framework for political financing.

He emphasized that his candidacy comes as a moral obligation and gratitude to the city of Vlora, where he has had an early political commitment over the years. Malaj recalled that he first ran for mayor in 1992, as well as for MP in 1996, while he has also held ministerial positions.

He also recalled running as an independent in 2013, where, according to him, he managed to receive 3670 votes, more than several other parties combined.

"I will not keep all my experience and knowledge for myself, but will put it at the service of the city," said Malaj, adding that his candidacy aims to make a concrete contribution to the development of Vlora.
