Italian citizen Marco Romeo, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of his ex-partner Paula in Torremolinos in 2023, has admitted for the first time that he killed Albanian Sibora Gagani, in an event that occurred in 2014. At the time, the Italian citizen was in a relationship with the Albanian.

According to Spanish media, the 48-year-old had for years denied any responsibility for Gagan's murder, claiming he had only hidden her body in the apartment they lived in. He had even previously accused authorities of manipulating the investigation against him.

But in a recent defense document, Romeo has changed his statements, admitting that he killed the young woman inside the shared apartment and then hid the body in a double wall built in one of the rooms of the house.

The body of the 22-year-old Albanian was discovered by police after his arrest in connection with the murder of Paula. According to investigations, the victim was found placed in a wooden box, covered with lime, while a knife with traces of blood and a bouquet of flowers were seized next to her.

Spanish prosecutors say Romeo and Gagani met in 2009 in the Italian town of Nettuno, when she was just 18, and a year later the couple moved to Spain to live together in Torremolinos. The investigation shows that the incident took place between July 7 and 14, 2014, when the defendant allegedly attacked her with a knife, causing her death after several blows, including a wound to the back.

The prosecution is seeking a sentence of 22 years in prison for premeditated murder in the context of gender violence and concealment of the body. The case is expected to be heard by a jury, separate from the other trial for Paula's murder.

Meanwhile, the defendant's defense disputes the charge of premeditated murder, claiming that the event was not planned, while the prosecution insists that his actions indicate a cold and organized manner of execution.
