Ina Zhupa from Saranda: "Students will learn in two shifts in 2025 while the new school is being given to the oligarchs"

MP Ina Zhupa has raised a strong concern from Saranda, denouncing the fact that even in 2025, the city continues to face two-shift teaching for 9-year-old students. According to her, two schools of this cycle in the city force children to attend the second shift from 13:00 PM to 18:00 PM, a practice that burdens parents' lives and significantly reduces the quality of the learning process.

Zhupa emphasized that the existing schools are depreciated, without laboratories, without modern teaching aids and far from the standards that an educational institution should have. She also recalled the investment of 348 million lek from citizens' taxes for the construction of the new "Eco Kampus" school, which - according to her - has not been put into operation for 8 years.

The MP accused the Municipality of Saranda of the recent decision-making, which she described as "scandalous and against the public interest", claiming that the new building is planned to be given to "oligarchs and clients of power", to be transformed into hotels and tourist resorts, instead of serving as a school for the city's children.

"This is unacceptable and leaves the students of Saranda in a miserable state," Zhupa declared, emphasizing that the city deserves functional schools and single-shift teaching, just like throughout Europe.

From Saranda, she called for the immediate withdrawal of this decision-making and demanded that "Eco Campus" be opened as a school as soon as possible, with the appropriate equipment and conditions, so that parents can be at ease and children can learn in a modern and safe environment.

Zhupa underlined that this is a problem that directly affects the community and urged citizens, parents and local actors to raise their voices against this reality, which according to her "is unique in Europe and unjustifiable for a city like Saranda."

Statement by MP Ina Zhupa from Saranda:

We are in 2025 and cities like Saranda still suffer from 2-shift teaching.

2 9-year schools in Saranda offer classes for Saranda students from 1 pm to 6 pm for the second shift, making the normal life of parents who have to accompany students during these inconvenient hours impossible, but also providing a low-quality lesson.

These schools are, in fact, depreciated schools, they are schools that do not offer laboratories, they are schools that lack quality in teaching and didactic tools.

Despite the fact that 348 million lek from Albanian citizens' taxes were spent to build a new school named "Eco Campus" in Saranda, it was not put into operation for 8 years.

And with a decision by the local government, the Municipality of Saranda, they decided to convert this building, built with citizens' taxes to become a school, and give it to the oligarchs and clients of the government, to turn it into hotels and tourist resorts.

This is unacceptable, it is against the public interest and leaves the students and parents of Saranda in a miserable situation.

I call on them today from Saranda to withdraw from this decision against the public interest.

From this decision which does not honor the city of Saranda and give the opportunity to the students of Saranda to teach in the new school, by opening that school. By providing the necessary resources to that school and each of the parents to be calmer when taking their children to study with 1 shift in the city of Saranda.

Therefore, it is everyone's duty to raise their voices about this reality, which is a unique reality throughout Europe but which the city of Saranda also suffers from.
