TIRANA – During the protest against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama, a citizen gave a speech to the protesters, criticizing the majority on issues related to corruption, institutions, and the use of public funds.
He requested that institutions investigate, according to him, people who exert pressure on citizens on social networks.
"Investigate the patronage agents who are threatening us every day and blackmailing us. These are people who are paid with our taxes. The director of the State Police should do this for once," the citizen said.
Referring to the debate over the financing of Kanye West's concert with around 4 million euros, he said that the government should not consider this issue as a symbol of Albania's image.
"A member of parliament said: 'We work for you', and said that we are handing over 4 million euros so as not to embarrass Albania. But this Albania has a former deputy prime minister who is under investigation and against whom justice has sought measures," he declared.
The citizen further criticized the government on other political issues and accused its leaders of losing public trust.
"Investigate the patronage agents who are threatening us every day and blackmailing us. They are people who are paid with our taxes. Let the director of the State Police do this for once. A deputy said, "we work for you", and said we are handing over 4 million euros so as not to embarrass Albania. Yes, this Albania has a former deputy prime minister who is under investigation and was requested by justice. The prosecutor said that he risks another 36 years in prison, doesn't this embarrass Albania? Isn't this the government that has a former deputy prime minister on the run who is accused of serious criminal offenses? Aren't these the shame of Albania. We have a government that is delegitimized even in the international arena, We have a luxury prime minister. Our Albania was labeled as the European Colombia, because when Tahiri was minister, Europe was overthrown with drugs... and these people talk about shame if Kanye West wasn't financed... Corruption at a high level, "Lawbreakers are not punished. Palaço deputies, like skutha, played the murlan, when they should have been thinking about how to represent us with dignity. You have no integrity to tell us who is embarrassing Albania. You are the shame of the Albanian nation and you deserve to go down in history as such," said an outraged citizen.
"High-level corruption, lawbreakers who go unpunished – this is the shame of Albania," the citizen said.
At the end of his speech, he accused the MPs of not properly representing the citizens and said that the government must be accountable to the people.
