Iran has denied that it has requested the resumption of negotiations with the United States, just hours after US President Donald Trump said Washington and Tehran had agreed to continue talks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai stressed that Tehran has not made any request for negotiations with the US. However, he confirmed the visit to Iran of a Qatari mediator, according to reports on Iranian state television.
Earlier in the day, Trump said the United States had agreed to hold talks with Iran after, according to him, Tehran had requested continuation of negotiations.
The US president also added that the ceasefire reached between the parties in June has now expired, leaving the further progress of relations between the two countries unclear.
