Iran has become a major concern for FIFA, with the latter having to make a decision regarding their presence or not in the World Cup. Earlier, Iran declared that they would not participate in the World Cup, they would not travel to an unfriendly country like the USA, but apparently they have changed their mind, now they are negotiating with FIFA to find a solution.

The Iranian Ambassador to Mexico has considered making this change of course public, with the latter negotiating for Iran's matches to not be held in the US, but in Mexico, one of the three countries that will host the "FIFA2026" World Cup.

This option has also been supported by the president of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj: "US President Donald Trump stated that he cannot guarantee the safety of the Iranian national team, of course we will not go to America. At the same time, we are negotiating with FIFA for Iran's matches in the World Cup to be held in Mexico.", added the president of the Iranian Football Federation, among other things.
