JORDAN – Iran's Revolutionary Guards have announced that they have struck the Azraq military base in Jordan with 10 ballistic missiles, in an action they described as part of retaliation for what they consider "American aggression."
According to the official statement broadcast by Iranian state media, the operation is part of a broader military campaign, while Tehran warned that American bases across the region would remain a target if there are further attacks from the United States.
On the other hand, Jordanian authorities announced that air defense systems responded immediately to the attack. According to the Jordanian state news agency, the armed forces managed to intercept and shoot down eight missiles launched from Iranian territory.
Authorities in Amman stated that no casualties, injuries or material damage to infrastructure were recorded from the downing of the missiles and their debris.
The escalation comes at a time when tensions between the United States and Iran have reached a critical level. The attacks and counterattacks in recent days have increased fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East, while analysts warn that targeting facilities linked to the US military presence in Jordan could increase the risk of other countries in the region being drawn into the conflict.
