Former Minister of Interior, Dritan Demiraj, invited to the show "This Week" on News24, commented on the recent developments of the war in Iran and the possible geopolitical consequences.

According to Demiraj, the West now recognizes that Iran has the capacity to block the Strait of Hormuz, a development that could fundamentally change the international balance. He emphasized that after the conflict, a different Iran is expected, with new conditions and a more aggressive approach to maritime traffic, including the imposition of high tariffs for the passage of ships.

Demiraj said that such a scenario had never been imagined before, adding that even figures like Ali Khamenei would not have dared to take such steps. According to him, today we have an Iran strongly influenced by the Revolutionary Guard, which has shown that it is not easily defeated, despite airstrikes.

He also stressed that the situation has caught both the US and EU countries off guard, as they had not anticipated such a development. Demiraj also referred to Dmitry Medvedev's statements that Iran has a "stronger card than nuclear weapons."

In conclusion, he underlined that the region is in a new phase, where the militarization of the Strait of Hormuz poses a serious risk, as any naval or submarine vessel within a certain radius could be a target, making passage through this area extremely dangerous.
