Iran will reduce its participation in the multilateral BRICS naval exercises being held off the coast of South Africa at the request of the Republic of South Africa.
The South African News 24 portal published information about this.
According to the publication, the CAE has proposed through diplomatic channels that Iran downgrade its status in the “Will of Peace 2026” exercises to observer status and that Iranian warships refuse to participate in the maneuvers. It is noted that the Iranian side responded to this request with understanding.
As a result, the two Iranian Navy ships already stationed in the Republic of South Africa are not expected to directly participate in the exercises, which will end on January 16.
South African News 24 writes that Pretoria's decision stems from a desire not to further complicate relations with the United States, amid complex trade negotiations underway between the two countries.
