Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of committing "war crimes" after US attacks on Iranian infrastructure and threats of possible strikes on bridges and power plants.
In a statement published on Telegram, Araghchi claimed that military actions and threats from Washington indicate, according to him, a "criminal intent" to carry out serious attacks on Iran.
The Iranian top diplomat described the US attacks as a "flagrant violation" of the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law.
"These are serious international crimes," Araghchi declared, referring to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and saying that the perpetrators of such actions must be held legally accountable.
He also accused US officials of using "irrational rhetoric and diabolical threats," claiming that Washington's policies target the Iranian people because of, as he put it, Iran's demand for independence and legitimate rights.
At the end of his statement, the Iranian Foreign Minister warned that those responsible for the attacks cannot evade legal responsibility by arguing that they acted on orders from superiors.
Tehran's accusations come at a time of high tensions between Iran and the United States, where military clashes and harsh diplomatic statements have raised concerns about further escalation in the region.
