An Iranian woman who inspired anti-hijab protests by removing her headscarf in public has been sentenced to a year in prison, but the supreme leader has pardoned her, her lawyers said.

Lawyer Payam Derefshan said today that a court sentenced Vida Movahed in March, after finding her guilty of encouraging "corruption". Movahed was arrested in November last year.

Derefshan said that Movahed is on the list for pardon by the country's supreme leader, but that the pardon procedures, according to him, have not yet been completed.

Iranian authorities have not yet commented on the case. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei usually issues decrees to pardon prisoners.

Movahed, 32 years old, was briefly arrested in 2017 for removing her headscarf in public. Under the same charges, that same year, the authorities arrested another 29 women.
