Through a Facebook post, Dorjan Teliti raised concerns about construction and the high level of corruption. He cited a recent World Bank survey, which says that about 28% of businesses in Albania declare that they have been asked for a bribe to obtain a construction permit. Teliti also emphasizes that the economy in the country is increasingly deformed.

According to a recent World Bank survey, around 28% of businesses in Albania state that they have been asked for a bribe to obtain a construction permit.

Four times more than the region. And not only that:

A few years ago it was 9% — today it has tripled.

12% of businesses face bribery even in relation to taxes.

The overall level of corruption remains above the regional average.

We are not faced with sporadic cases, but a system where: "permits are not granted by law... but by agreement", a system where "competition is not based on merit... but on clientelistic connections"... a system where the economy does not grow but simply becomes increasingly deformed.

And meanwhile, the government talks about “reforms” and “success.” Is it called success that today 1 in 3 businesses is forced to pay bribes to work?

RIP the free market. RIP the competitive economy. RIP economic justice and family well-being.
