US President Donald Trump has reacted to Israel's airstrike in Beirut, stating that the action should not have happened, especially at a time when, according to him, there is a possibility of a peace agreement in the region.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said Israel has the right to defend itself, but argued that the attack it was responding to was "very small and meaningless."

"Especially on a special day when we are so close to a peace deal with Iran, this attack should not have happened," he wrote.

Trump added that the United States and Iran are "very close to an agreement that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon," calling on all parties to avoid further escalating the situation.

He stressed that there should be no more attacks from either Israel or "any other party," describing the current moment as an opportunity to pave the way toward stability.

"This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace. Let's not ruin it," Trump concluded in his message.
