Seven people have been killed and three others injured in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, Lebanese state media reported. The attack occurred in the early hours of the morning, when Israeli aircraft hit a house in the village of Ansar, in southern Lebanon. According to the Lebanese National News Agency, the victims were pulled from the rubble after the strike.

The incident is considered one of the deadliest attacks in Lebanon in recent weeks, as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue despite a deal brokered by the United States.

The Israeli military said it had struck Hezbollah infrastructure overnight in what it called a security zone in southern Lebanon, arguing that the attacks were in response to actions against Israeli forces. Israel has said it will keep troops in the areas it controls in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah disarms. Meanwhile, a US State Department official has warned that a permanent Israeli military presence in the area would be contrary to commitments under an agreement reached with the Lebanese government.
