Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted strongly through a post on the X platform regarding the debate on judges' salaries and their request for a salary increase, responding to the judge of the Special Court of Appeal and at the same time the head of the Judges' Association, Engert Pëllumbi. The latter, in an interview for the show "Kjo Javë" with Nisida Tufa, argued that the issue is not about a technical impasse or a lack of funds, but about a political decision-making by the executive branch, which he considers a violation of the Constitution and the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code. "That's how much money the GJKKO confiscates from organized crime every year. It's not a big burden, not to mention the money that the executive branch wastes in connection with tenders," Pëllumbi declared.
Rama says that a judge cannot claim that the money collected by the justice system belongs to him, describing this as an indicator of “ignorance about the functioning of the state.” The Prime Minister has compared this situation to a hypothetical scenario, where other administration employees would also seek to directly receive the money they collect from citizens.
Rama raises the question of what would happen to other categories of administration and public services if such a request were accepted. In his reaction, Rama also dwells on the salary difference, claiming that if the requested increase were accepted without legal changes, a starting judge would be paid several times more than a teacher, doctor or soldier.
REACTION
No, a judge could never speak like that!
The history of the world has never seen judges say they will take the money themselves from the state treasury because it is ours, and this "we collected it ourselves" is a step in itself due to the horrifying level of ignorance about the functioning of the state.
Let's imagine if customs and tax officials, police and inspectors showed up and said we want the money we ourselves collected in the state treasury from taxes and fines!
What then remains for teachers, doctors, military personnel and many others who serve thousands of state duties, for which they are paid from the treasury? And if this increase demanded without law is accepted as a fait accompli, it falls to the teacher, doctor, military personnel to receive 3.8 times more or a 280% higher salary than a beginning judge. You can't even imagine how much more the others above.
