The Mayor of Himara, Vangjel Tavo, has reacted to the decision to dissolve the IMT after 3 of the inspectors were declared wanted for abuse of office.
They allowed the construction of a 5-story building in Qeparo, whose owner was arrested this Monday by the police and the building collapsed.
Tavo states that they will now hire inspectors from IKMT to cover the area, as Himara lacks human capacity.
The mayor said that the drastic decision comes after the warnings he has made against this structure and the ongoing violations he has observed.
"IMT has 6 employees on duty, one was a vacant position, today 5 have been suspended from work, the structure is being dissolved.
It is a drastic measure, but it is an action forced by the situation on the ground.
I have contacted their director every day to inspect every centimeter of land and not allow unauthorized construction. Not only have they not done so, but they are turning to villagers and citizens for works that are legally permitted and allow non-invisible construction.
They allowed the construction of a 5-story building in Porto Palermo while forbidding villagers from fixing up their yards.
"I will ask IKMT to take over the coverage of the territory of Himara with its own inspectors, as the Municipality of Himara, also due to the lack of human capacity, is forced to hire employees from outside the municipality," said Tavo.
