The Japanese government has decided to join the PURL program, created by NATO and aimed at purchasing US-made equipment for transfer to Ukraine.

It was emphasized that the funds from the Japanese side will be directed exclusively to the purchase of non-lethal equipment and supplies. In particular, we are talking about radar systems and protective vests. It was noted that Japan has already informed several NATO member states and Ukraine itself about its decision.

The PURL program was created by NATO in the summer of 2025 in response to the US decision to stop free arms supplies to Kiev. Under this program, Kiev formulates its military needs, while EU countries allocate funds to purchase these weapons from the US and deliver them free of charge to Ukraine.
