The Journalists' Association of Albania has reacted with concern to the statements and behavior of Prime Minister Edi Rama during a press conference, describing them as a violation of institutional communication standards with the media.

In a public reaction, AGSH condemns the exclusion of journalist Ambrozia Meta from press conferences, as well as the removal of journalist Isa Myzyraj from activity, considering this a dangerous precedent for limiting journalists' access to information and for pressure on critical media.

The organization also expresses concern about the derogatory language used against the media and calls on state institutions to respect media freedom and democratic standards of communication.

Full reaction:

The Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH) has followed with deep concern the press conference held by the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama, during which behavior and statements were displayed that violate basic standards of institutional communication with the media and respect for the work of journalists.
AGSH condemns the permanent exclusion of journalist Ambrozia Meta from the press conference, an action that constitutes a dangerous precedent for limiting journalists' access to public information and the selective exclusion of media outlets from institutional activities.

Likewise, AGSH considers the verbal attack and exclusion from conferences of journalist Isa Myzyraj unacceptable, an action that contradicts the principles of institutional respect and democratic standards of communication with the media.

Along the same lines, the Prime Minister's use of derogatory terms such as "pot" or public accusations that some "media outlets launder money" are problematic statements when coming from a top executive official in the country. Such labels not only damage the climate of dialogue between institutions and the media, but also create an atmosphere of pressure and delegitimization towards critical media outlets.

In a democratic state, any allegations of legal violations by the media must be addressed by the competent judicial authorities, based on the law and due process. Politicians, including the Prime Minister, cannot and should not use press conferences to issue general accusations or to incite judicial institutions against the media.

AGSH recalls that freedom of the media and expression are cornerstones of democracy, protected by the Constitution of the Republic of Albania and the European Convention on Human Rights. The Government and all public officials have the obligation to respect the critical role of the media. The Journalists Association of Albania calls on the Prime Minister and every public official to show institutional responsibility in communicating with the media, to avoid derogatory language and to guarantee equal access for all journalists to public activities.
