KOSOVO- The Central Election Commission has announced that it has made a decision to certify 4 out of 5 new political entities for the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo, which have applied for certification to participate in the elections during the period May 2 - May 10, 2026.

After fulfilling the criteria set out in the Law on General Elections and the CEC's bylaws, the certified entities (3 coalitions and 1 independent candidate) are:

• The coalition named Lëvizja VETËVENDOSJE!, which consists of 4 registered political parties: Lëvizja VETËVENDOSJE!, Guxo, Alternatia and the Albanian Democratic Christian Party;
• The coalition named Koalicija Vakat, which consists of 2 registered political parties: Demokratska Stranka Bosnjacka and Demokratska Stranka Vatan;
• The coalition called UNITED ASHKALITĘ, which consists of 3 registered political parties: the Ashkali Party for Integration, the Democratic Party of Ashkali of Kosovo, and the Movement for Cooperation; and
• Independent candidate Esmir Kasi.

"The CEC supported the recommendation of the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control of Political Entities (ZRCKFSP) to refuse certification of the civic initiative Složno Pobeđuemo, as this entity has failed to meet the legal criterion for the necessary number of signatures required during the application for certification. In paragraph 7 of Article 16 of Law No. 08/L-228 on General Elections, it is determined that "...each application for certification includes the necessary number of signatures as provided for by the CEC rule", while in paragraph 7 of Article 2 of the Electoral Regulation No. 04/2024 Certification of Political Entities and their Candidates, political entities applying for certification are obliged to submit a list of supporters with at least 1,000 signatures", the announcement on Facebook states.

The CEC also says that it supported the Office's recommendation to refuse certification of the registered political party, SDA - Stranka Demokratske Akcije, as this non-parliamentary political entity has failed to meet the legal criterion for the necessary number of signatures required during the certification application.

In general, after the decisions of today's meeting, the political entities (3 coalitions, 17 political parties and 1 independent candidate) in the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo are:

In the next item on the agenda, the CEC made a decision to increase the number of voters who can register for physical voting at the Kosovo consulate in Frankfurt, for the early elections for the Kosovo Assembly, which will be held on June 6, 2026.

According to the CEC decision, the maximum number of voters who can register to vote at this diplomatic representation is from 1,500 to 1,900.

The CEC says it had initially approved two polling stations for voting at the Kosovo consulate in Frankfurt, with a capacity of 750 voters for each of them.

However, due to the large number of registrations and the fact that only 113 vacancies remain, it has been assessed that there is a need to increase capacity, in order not to limit the right to vote for other interested citizens.

"Following consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora and confirmation from the Consul General in Frankfurt, it has been determined that the diplomatic mission possesses sufficient spatial and logistical conditions to administer up to 1,900 voters. For this reason, it is recommended that the number of voters be increased to 950 for each polling station, respectively 1,900 voters in total in this Voting Center," the CEC says.
