Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that Israel will strike Iranian energy infrastructure and other civilian targets if Tehran launches an attack on Israel.
The statement was made on Monday during a meeting with Defense Ministry staff, at a time when tensions in the Middle East have increased significantly due to the escalation of clashes between the United States and Iran.
Katz said that an Iranian attack on Israel would remove any restrictions on Tel Aviv from launching a direct offensive against Iran. The Israeli minister warned that the target would be Iran's national military and political infrastructure, including the energy sector. "We will paralyze Iran's entire national military and political infrastructure, including the energy infrastructure," Katz said, adding that Israel aims to return Iran "deep into the Stone Age and darkness."
The warning comes after renewed hostilities between Washington and Tehran. The United States reportedly struck targets on Iran's southern coast, while Iran launched attacks on US bases in several parts of the region. Katz's statements have raised concerns about a further escalation of the conflict and Israel's direct involvement in a new confrontation with Iran.
