The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, is optimistic about the possibility of an agreement between the Vetevendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo on the creation of new institutions.
Kurti said that the coming days will be used to advance talks with the LDK, on the eve of the constitutive session of the Assembly, which is scheduled for August 6.
"There is interest, will, and readiness, but we will find out everything next week," Kurti declared, emphasizing that the outcome of the negotiations cannot yet be predicted.
Talks between the two political forces are expected to resume after their suspension last month. The LDK camp has also signaled cooperation with the LVV, but the party has set several conditions for a possible agreement.
According to LDK deputy leader Lutfi Haziri, the agreement should include all the country's main institutions, including the Parliament, the Government and the Presidency. The government program, state agenda and division of responsibilities are also expected to be on the table.
The issue of electing the president is expected to be one of the most important points of the negotiations. The LVV has secured 53 mandates, while the LDK 18, and a cooperation between them would create a sufficient majority to secure the necessary numbers in the Assembly.
However, it remains unclear whether all LDK MPs will support an agreement with Vetëvendosje, due to internal clashes within the party.
If Kosovo fails to elect a president within the constitutional deadline of 60 days after the constitution of the Assembly, the legislative institution is dissolved and the country goes to new elections. This could lead to the fourth parliamentary elections since the beginning of 2025. /Rel
