A large-scale fire engulfed an area of forest and bushes between the villages of “Andon Poçi” and Hundëkuq in Gjirokastër overnight, risking the spread of the flames towards residential areas. The alarm was raised at 22:38 by a citizen, while two firefighting teams were initially dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival in the area, it was found that the fire had spread to three active fires, on two different hills, making the situation particularly difficult.
The mountainous and rugged terrain, covered with bushes and dense vegetation, made it impossible to intervene with firefighting vehicles. The entire staff of the Gjirokastra Fire Department was engaged in dealing with the situation, while the work was focused on stopping the flames from advancing towards the villages of Andon Poçi and Hundëkuq.
The fire lasted about seven hours. After an all-night intervention, the fires were completely extinguished at around 05:30 in the morning.
From the data so far, there are no reports of damage to homes or injured people.
