Two large fires broke out on the Greek island of Salamis at noon on Sunday, alarming authorities and mobilizing a large number of firefighters. 192 firefighters and 14 aircraft are engaged in the operation to extinguish the flames, while strong winds continue to blow in the area, favoring the spread of the fire.

The first fire broke out in the Peristeri area, where the flames also engulfed homes. Four people were reported to have suffered burns, while an elderly man was rescued from a home in the Kaki Vigla area. All were transported to the Salamina Health Center for medical assistance.

Meanwhile, a second fire has broken out in the Selinija area, spreading towards Kaki Vigla. The situation has become particularly worrying due to favorable conditions for the spread of flames and the proximity of the fire to residential areas.

There are also a large number of Coast Guard vehicles on the ground, which have been placed on standby for a possible evacuation of residents from the sea, especially from Selinia and Kaki Vigla.

Greek authorities have activated the 112 emergency system, sending out several messages to evacuate residents from endangered areas. Land and air operations continue, while firefighting forces are trying to contain the spread of the flames and protect residential areas.
