A question-and-answer session was held in the Parliament between SP MP Erion Braçe and Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro.
Braçe expressed concern about the duration of the construction of the 11 January school and the development of shift-based learning.
Meanwhile, the minister explained that the construction of the school has been completed and its furnishing is underway.
Erjon Braçe: One month, 2 days and 2 hours to return to normality. For what, for 10 minutes. The questions I have presented are related to civic concern. I prioritize the construction of the January 11 school, the construction of the school is a public good, but it is also accompanied by concerns for children and parents of grandparents. The administration of the time for the construction of a school can be done simply.
Children attend school in the afternoon and change the agenda of their parents who are at work. The children's learning process has changed from that of the afternoon to that of the morning, these are normal human concerns.
Kumbaro: The construction of the “Edith Durham” school has been completed. It is not enough to finish the walls, because the furnishing must also be carried out, which has its own procurement procedure according to the budget phases. The process of furnishing the premises with furniture and didactic tools has begun, so that the school can be put into full function, where the Municipality of Tirana, as the authority responsible for this aspect, is in the process of completing this process and completing all the premises, for the normal development of the teaching process.
Today we have a modern building with contemporary infrastructural standards, with expanded capacities for students, with functional classrooms and spaces dedicated to the development of teaching subjects. This is an important, long-awaited investment for the community and for the education system in one of the most important areas of the capital. The new “Edith Durham” school has 33 classrooms, of which 13 are dedicated to primary education and 20 for the 9-year cycle, ensuring sufficient capacity for students.
The new building is equipped with 10 specialized laboratories for various subjects such as computer science, physics, chemistry, biology and foreign languages. In addition, the school also has a multimedia room, a library and a gym with an area of 405 m², creating functional spaces for the development of teaching and educational activities.
Meanwhile, during this transitional period, I emphasize that the students of the "Edith Durham" school are studying in the premises of the "Emin Duraku" school, which is located only 160 meters away, without leaving the area where the students are used to going, or causing significant problems in their transportation.
"The "Emin Duraku" school is also a new school, built according to European standards through the EU4School program, guaranteeing very good conditions for the development of learning. In this case, I would like to express a special thank you to the students, teachers, parents and grandparents, who during this time have shown maximum understanding and cooperation. This solidarity has been very important in guaranteeing the normal continuation of the learning process, but on the other hand, enabling the continuation of the works for the total reconstruction of the Edith Durham school", said Minister Kumbaro.
Further, Minister Kumbaro emphasized that investments in educational facilities remain a top priority of the Ministry of Education in cooperation with local government.
"Students will soon return to the new premises of the "Edith Durham" school, in a more modern and functional environment for the development of learning. I also emphasize that investments in education remain one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the local government."
"In Tirana alone, over 70 schools have been built and reconstructed in recent years, creating modern conditions for thousands of students who today study in environments equipped with laboratories, libraries, gyms and sports fields," said Minister Kumbaro.
