German airline Lufthansa, Europe's largest airline, will cancel around 20,000 flights due to fuel shortages.
It was clarified that a decision was made to change the schedule and reduce the number of unprofitable short-haul flights by 120 per day. Thus, the company aims to save more than 40,000 tons of aviation kerosene, the price of which has doubled since the beginning of the conflict with Iran.
The cuts are scheduled to last until October. Lufthansa is currently stocked with fuel for the coming weeks and hopes for a stable fuel supply.
Lufthansa had already announced that it would remove 27 aircraft from its regional carrier CityLine from its summer schedule. The withdrawal was planned before the war, but the conflict with Iran forced the company to take the action sooner.
