At least seven people have been killed in Russia after a massive wave of drone attacks launched from Ukraine, which Russian officials have described as one of the biggest attacks this year.
According to Russian authorities, some 822 drones were used overnight, with around 600 of them targeting the Moscow region. The Moscow governor described the situation as one of the most massive drone attacks in recent memory.
In the Rostov region, in southwestern Russia, five people were killed in overnight attacks. In Belgorod, near the border with Ukraine, a woman died after a civilian bus was hit. Meanwhile, in the Moscow region, an 83-year-old man was killed in another drone strike.
One of the targets was a warehouse of online retailer Wildberries in Koledino, about 25 kilometers from central Moscow. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the attack caused a large fire and injured three people. Footage posted on social media showed a large plume of smoke rising above the warehouse area.
Wildberries, one of Russia's largest online retailers, has been hit in previous attacks. Kiev has said the aim was to disrupt logistics centers it says are used to supply the Russian military.
At the same time, Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory have caused at least seven deaths and more than 39 injuries. Russia has intensified missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks, while Ukraine has increased drone attacks on targets inside Russian territory.
Both sides accuse each other of attacks on civilians, while the escalation of the air war continues at a time when Moscow and Kiev are intensifying military operations deep inside the opponent's territory.
