Iran is expected to soon introduce a new mechanism for managing maritime transport in the Strait of Hormuz, the head of the National Security Committee in the Iranian parliament, Ebrahim Aziz, announced.
According to him, Iran has prepared a special plan for controlling the traffic of ships passing through this strategic sea route, while its official presentation is expected in the coming days. Aziz stated that the new system will be applied only to commercial ships and to countries or companies that cooperate with Tehran. He added that entities that will join this mechanism will be able to benefit from special services offered by the Iranian side, against tariffs that are expected to be set by the Iranian authorities.
However, the official did not provide concrete details on how the plan would work, or which countries and companies would be considered "collaborating parties."
The initiative comes at a time of high tensions in the region and growing international concerns about the safety of navigation in one of the most important energy corridors in the world.
