During his visit to Washington, Republican Party Chairman and MP Fatmir Mediu held a series of meetings with American congressmen and senior representatives, intensifying discussions on the political and institutional situation in Albania.
The focus of the talks was on the issues of elections, organized crime, government corruption, and the political use of the justice system, issues for which the interest and concern of American partners has increased significantly after the recent hearings in Congress.
With important representatives of key Congressional committees, Mediu shared his analysis and concerns regarding the risk these developments pose to democracy and stability in Albania.

During my visit to the US, I continued to meet with friends in Congress.
Friendly working morning, with the Chairman of the Committee on Europe, Congressman Keith Self, who organized the hearing on the Balkans, and friend Eduard Jospeh, one of the main witnesses of this session in Congress, where the need to assess the problems of the judiciary in Albania and the problems of elections and organized crime was emphasized.
Congressman Pete Sessions, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee on Government Operations, Congressman Robert Aderholt, Chairman of the Congressional Albania Caucus, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, Chair of the House Rules Committee, Congressman Jonathan Jackson, Congressman Juan Vargas, as well as representatives of the Judiciary Committee.
In these meetings we talked about the difficult political situation in Albania, the manipulation of the elections clearly denounced by the ODHIR report, organized crime related to drug cartels and their powerful influence in politics and government, government corruption and especially the political use of the judiciary to destroy the opposition.
