The chaos and unrest that is currently taking place in Mexico is also worrying the world of football, especially FIFA, as Mexico is one of the 3 countries that will host the FIFA2026 World Cup, as well as several matches before the start of this tournament. Finally, two federations have written an official letter to FIFA expressing their concern about the situation that is happening in Mexico.
The first federation is Bolivia, which is asking FIFA to increase security measures ahead of the play-off matches. Bolivia, along with Jamaica, Iraq, Congo, New Caledonia and Suriname, are still in the running to secure a ticket to the World Cup, 6 teams for 2 tickets. Bolivia will play against Suriname on March 26 in Monterrey, the capital of Mexico.
The Portuguese Football Federation has the same concern as Ronaldo and his team will play a friendly match against Mexico in Mexico City, at the "Azteca" stadium. The Portuguese Federation has also written to FIFA with an official letter requesting increased security measures after Mexico was hit by a wave of unrest following the murder of drug trafficker Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho.
