The Court of Appeal in Tirana has changed the security measure for the five protesters arrested after acts of violence during the protest, where they allegedly threw Molotov cocktails towards the Council of Ministers building.
The Court of Appeals convened today at the request of the defense, which requested the release from the cell of five protesters who were under the security measure "Arrest with imprisonment".
After hearing the parties, Judge Dritan Hasa decided to change the security measure from "Arrest in prison" to "Obligation to report to the judicial police" for Klement Çuçka, Bujar Tuşa, Henri Shapllo, Mirvet Tocilla and Semi Biçi.
In connection with the April 17 protest, organized by the Democratic Party of Albania, a total of 11 protesters are under investigation. Five of them were released from custody in the first instance and were released from their cells today, while for the other six, first instance judge Enkel Peza imposed the security measure of "Compulsory appearance".
The court imposed the measure "Compulsory reporting to the judicial police" on Bardhyl Ndoun, Sokol Bajraktari, Igball Domin, Gentjan Tuga, Ernest Kapo and Edison Shyti in the first instance.
The prosecution accuses the detained protesters of "Strike in the name of duty", "Disturbing public peace", "Destruction of property by fire", "Opposition to a law enforcement officer" and "Unauthorized production and possession of dangerous devices".
