A powerful explosion on the surface of the Sun has put space weather back in the spotlight, with scientists warning that a massive cloud of plasma headed toward Earth could cause a geomagnetic storm over the weekend. The phenomenon was caused by active sunspot 4465, which produced a coronal mass ejection (CME), spewing a large amount of charged particles and high-speed plasma into space. Although the solar flare was classified as a C6, a relatively moderate level, the cloud created is on a direct trajectory toward our planet.

According to forecast models from NASA and NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, the plasma mass is expected to reach Earth's magnetosphere on June 13, causing disturbances in the planet's magnetic field.

Experts estimate that the impact could bring a G2 category geomagnetic storm, of moderate intensity. Such an event could create spectacular auroras visible even at lower latitudes than usual, while technically it could cause small and temporary disruptions in high-frequency radio communications and limited fluctuations in the electrical grids of northern regions.

Authorities emphasize that a G2 level storm is considered manageable and is not expected to have serious consequences for infrastructure, but the situation will be closely monitored over the coming days.
