Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun will visit the White House, where they will also meet with US President Donald Trump.
According to international media, this visit is expected to take place within the next 4-5 days.
"It will be the first time in 44 years that they have met," Trump told reporters.
What does the agreement provide?
Details of the agreement were published by the US State Department.
According to her, Israel and Lebanon will implement a 10-day ceasefire in order to allow negotiations to take place with the aim of a final security and peace agreement, leaving open the possibility that this period could be extended by mutual agreement.
Once the ceasefire goes into effect, the Lebanese government will take specific measures to prevent any attacks by Hezbollah or other armed groups operating on Lebanese soil against Israel, the State Department said in a statement.
At the same time, it is clarified that Israel "reserves the right to take at any time all necessary measures for its defense."
According to the US State Department announcement, the draft of this agreement provides as follows: "Israel and Lebanon will implement a ceasefire from April 16, 2026, for an initial period of ten days, as a gesture of goodwill by the Government of Israel, in order to enable negotiations to be held in good faith to reach a permanent security and peace agreement between the two countries."
