Manuel Neuer has not hesitated to talk about his early days in football. He told L'Equipe that when he was little, he didn't choose to be a goalkeeper, but the coach decided to put him there.
"When I was little I didn't choose to be a goalkeeper, the coach put me there. I had just joined the Schalke youth team and the team didn't have a goalkeeper. At that time, no one wanted to play in this role. It was played on artificial pitches or hard carpets, sometimes even in parking lots.
Jumping to catch the ball was painful. When I played with my friends after training, I didn't get active in goal. Among other things, Bayern's number one goalie also explains the cases when he conceded goals, which have gone around the world. "For me, the role of goalkeeper has its own risk. I take the risk that I can pass if I leave the goal based on the match and the situation. Of course, when you play at the limit, you risk a lot," said Neuer, Bayern's goalkeeper.
